Academic Grievance Procedure

Students who believe that they have been subjected to an improper decision on an academic matter may file a grievance to obtain an independent review of the concern and corrective action, if appropriate.

Dean of Students

Staff in the Dean of Students Office, Residential Education, and Graduate Life Office provide support to students on a wide range of issues, and can help students understand and navigate the support resources that are available to them. If you are concerned about a student you can reach out to report your concern to the Graduate Life Office (for graduate students) Residential Education (for undergraduate students) or the Dean of Students generally.

Diversity & Access Office

The Diversity and Access Office manages the student ADA Grievance Process (protecting students from discrimination based on disability) and the Student Non-Academic Grievance Process (for student grievances against the University that aren't within the scope of another grievance processes, including those which may arise in a student's capacity as a student-employee, but only in cases where the student is not covered by a collective bargaining agreement). Claims filed against faculty under either procedure will be referred to the relevant dean’s office.

Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S)

EH&S is the principal health and safety office at Stanford University. EH&S supports and advances the teaching, learning and research activities at Stanford by promoting a safe and healthy campus environment. It provides and coordinates programs and services that minimize safety, health, environmental, and regulatory risks. If you have a safety concern, you may report it anonymously by using the link below.

Office of Accessible Education (OAE)

OAE helps students access services and accommodations tailored to their individual disability to promote equal access to Stanford's educational environment. It also supports students’ in their right to file a grievance when their disability and accommodation needs are not appropriately being met.

Office of Community Standards (OCS)

Stanford's "fundamental standard" requires that students "show both within and without the University such respect for order, morality, personal honor and the rights of others as is demanded of good citizens." OCS helps to uphold this standard at Stanford. If you feel another student's conduct has violated the fundamental standard, please reach out to OCS to discuss your concern.

The University Compliance and Ethics Helpline is a resource for community members to ask questions about how to do the right thing or report concerns about possible violations of policies, regulations or laws.

SHARE Title IX and Title VI Office

The SHARE Title IX and Title VI Office is the University’s central resource for redressing and preventing sexual harassment, violence, and harassment/discrimination issues experienced by Stanford students.

Threat Assessment Management Team (TAM)

If you are concerned about an individual or situation that may represent a threat on Stanford campus, you may reach out to the Threat Assessment Management team (TAM). Once a report is made, a member of the TAM team will review the information and initiate appropriate action.
